LIPOSUCTION IN SPRINGFIELD, MO

Although fat and cellulite are often associated with one another, they have distinctive differences – and treatment plans vary depending on which condition you want to address. At DermaHealth, we offer treatment plans that target fat, cellulite or both. Every person is different. Therefore, our treatments are tailored according to each unique individual’s goals to achieve the most effective results. To decide which treatment is most suitable for your needs, it is helpful to understand the difference between fat and cellulite.

Fat

There are two basic types of fat: subcutaneous and visceral. Subcutaneous fat is a type of connective tissue that serves as a layer of insulation for the body. This fat is easily identifiable because it lies directly underneath the skin’s surface. Subcutaneous fat helps maintain internal body temperature, acts as a cushion for the body, and serves as an energy resource. Visceral fat resides deeper inside the body, around the organs.

Cellulite

Cellulite is the term given to lumpy, dimpled flesh, most commonly appearing on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and abdomen. It is most common in adolescent and adult women. Although cellulite is not a serious medical condition, its appearance can be embarrassing. Cellulite is a structure in the skin.  It is not fat. Cellulite can not be removed.  The appearance of it can be reduced for a short time but the structure remains.

Fat Treatment: Liposuction

Laser-assisted tumescent liposuction, administered with local anesthesia, employs safety, finesse, and gentleness to achieve optimal cosmetic results. Liposuction body sculpting can help eliminate fat that dieting and exercise won’t. This treatment is a revolutionary, minimally invasive treatment that achieves what no fitness routine can: permanently destroying and eliminating fat cells. Laser-assisted liposuction treatment is most ideal when you are within 20 pounds of your goal weight and wish to achieve a sculptured look.

Note: Laser-assisted liposuction is wonderful for fine sculpting and removing that area of unwanted, stubborn fat. However, it is not considered an appropriate method for weight loss and sometimes has little effect on the appearance of cellulite and could potentially make the appearance more pronounced.

How does this treatment work?

We perform our laser-assisted liposuction treatment at our clinic. For the procedure, you will be made comfortable and lightly sedated. Our medical doctors will create tiny openings and then use a precise, powerful laser to liquefy fat cell deposits and stimulate the skin for firming. The liquefied fat is then suctioned from the body through the same small openings. You will wear a compression garment for a short period after treatment. This helps reduce swelling and compress the skin to your body’s newly shaped contours.

What areas can liposuction treat?

Our laser-assisted liposuction is a suitable treatment strategy for many areas of the body:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Thighs
  • Hips and buttocks

What’s the comfort level of this treatment?

Local anesthesia helps make the procedure very comfortable. Our clients are awake and talking throughout the procedure. After the treatment, clients may experience minimal bruising, minor aches and pains, and some drainage.

What are the results like?

Laser-assisted liposuction results are long-lasting, provided you maintain a stable weight and general fitness. You will begin to notice results within a week and see continued improvement over the next six to nine months.

Who are good candidates for this treatment?

Clients who are in good health, have a body mass index (BMI) less than 25, and want extra help getting rid of stubborn fat are ideal candidates for liposuction.

What related treatments does DermaHealth recommend?

The body contouring lasers are wonderful, noninvasive adjuncts that can help smooth the skin’s surface. We also recommend skin tightening treatments, such as Sublime or Forma, which can help reduce wrinkles and sagging skin.

Body Sculpturing

DermaHealth offers a variety of treatments that help break down fat and sculpt the body. This program is a safe, non-invasive way to improve your body contour and it may help to reduce the appearance of cellulite for a short time.

How does this treatment work?

  • TruSculpt ID: This procedure is FDA approved for permanent fat destruction.  It is a 15-minute treatment that can be repeated if desired in 12 weeks.  It will also help tighten skin.
  • BodyFx: This procedure delivers heat into the compromised fat cells to break up and destroy them. The BodyFx laser reduces the circumference of the treated area.
  • Forma: This procedure tightens and smoothes the skin’s surface.

Our sculpturing and reduction treatment requires no downtime, and you can exercise any time before and after treatment without any complications.

What’s the comfort level of this treatment?

Our sculpturing and reduction treatment is noninvasive and generally comfortable. Many clients compare this treatment to a massage.

What are the results like?

Our clients can expect smoother, less dimpled flesh and some fat reduction, but the fat will not be completely eliminated. Weight gain may negatively impact results. The degree of response to the treatments varies among clients and is affected by BMI, genetics, and lifestyle.

Is any downtime required?

There is no downtime with this treatment, although the skin may appear red or possibly itchy (similar to a sunburn) for a short time after treatment.

Who are good candidates for this treatment?

Anyone who has been exercising but still has some problem areas to treat.

What related treatments does DermaHealth recommend?

Although the BodyFx, Trusculpt, and Forma lasers can be individual treatments, you can combine them for the best results. With less fat and a smoother appearance of cellulite, you may feel more comfortable in shorts or a swimsuit, so we also recommend a spray tan to show off those legs!

Post-Treatment Tips

Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning beds for one week after treatment. Use sunscreen with a minimum of SPF 15 when sun exposure cannot be avoided.

Avoid injury to the treated area. Do not rub, scratch, or pick at the treated skin. Treat the skin gently to decrease the chance of any problems.

Shower or bathe as usual with a mild soap, but remember the treated area may be temperature sensitive. Avoid using exfoliates and loofa sponges on the treatment area. Don’t aggressively scrub the treatment area. While the area is still red or healing, use a soft cloth to pat the area dry.  More information about Pre and Post treatment for liposuction is available here:
