Fillers and Neuromodulators: Customer Experiences

Most everyone you encounter will recognize the word Botox when they hear it. And many of those same people will know what Botox is used for, either from personal experience or some other external source. But if someone said neuromodulator, inhibitor, or Dysport, would you know what they were talking about? By sharing some of our customers’ experiences with these products, we hope to help you better understand how fillers and neuromodulators could make a positive impact on your life.

Fillers and Neuromodulators

Fillers and Neuromodulators

Botox and Dysport are two separate products under the classification of neuromodulators. Inhibitor is another term used to describe Botox and Dysport. These products work by relaxing our facial muscles to soften the stubborn fine lines and wrinkles we earn over time. This allows us to have a more youthful, smooth, refreshed appearance and complexion; our skin and surrounding tissue softens as these products set in.

Dermal fillers may not be as familiar to everyone. They work to achieve a more youthful appearance by restoring volume loss that occurs naturally during the normal process of aging. Dermal fillers have the ability to give you a natural, restored look.

Our Customers’ Experiences

While dermal fillers and neuromodulators are very good at what they do, have you ever wondered about the stories behind the clients that chose to get them? What brought them to decide that they wanted dermal fillers or neuromodulators?

We would like to take this opportunity to share some of our clients’ personal testimonies of why they chose to be treated with neuromodulators and fillers, so that you might read their stories and recognize similar feelings or experiences in your own life. Our hope is that you find these testimonies helpful and relatable. Consequently, these testimonies may spark your interest in becoming part of the DermaHealth family and seeing what our services can offer you.

Testimonies

“I am a Sunday school teacher. My students kept asking me why I always look mean or mad. I’m neither of those things. I don’t want to appear that way to them.”

“I look old. I don’t feel old, but I appear that way.”

“I look tired.” (Many people can relate to this feeling, because oftentimes there are just not enough hours in the day. However, it would be nice if that didn’t show on our faces all the time.)

“I am beginning to look like my mother.”

A repeat client has sought our services for neuromodulators and fillers. We asked her what has prompted her to return. She says, “I need to keep this up so that if I get stopped on the road, the policeman is less likely to give me a ticket when I look good.”

“I have several friends that are coming here and getting these products, and they look so good. I want to feel the same way. I want people to look at me and think, ‘Wow, she looks great for her age. I wonder how she does it.’ I love that element of wonder.”

“I stare at a computer screen all day, and I think it leaves me looking drained. I obviously can’t change my job, but if I can enhance my appearance, I’m all for it.”

“I want to be able to continue to make facial expressions without making railroad track wrinkles across my forehead.”

“I’m starting to notice jowls around my lower face.”

‘I’ve never had big lips, but now I feel like I have no lips at all.”

The DermaHealth Difference

At DermaHealth, we strive to build a relationship with each of our clients. Our goal is to know our clients on a personal basis, aside from just being a client in our facility. To reach this goal, we take time to listen to our clients’ stories leading up to the moment they decided to seek out services or products at DermaHealth.

The statements above are just a few of the testimonies that we have heard from our clients over the years at DermaHealth. Hopefully you find that you can draw similarities between your life and what other people experience before they seek our services. Our consultations are FREE, because we thrive on taking time to get to know our clients and individualizing their treatment plans based on their goals. Types of Inhibitors

Wrinkles are typically smoothed away using one of two products: fillers or inhibitors (neurotoxins). As you might have guessed, fillers add volume and reshape the face by filling out the space below the wrinkle. Inhibitors, on the other hand, target the muscles that have caused the wrinkles, weakening them so that they don’t move as much. These products are commonly used on frown lines, crows’ feet, and forehead wrinkles, where they soften the aging process. If you’re interested in reducing the appearance of your wrinkles by targeting the underlying muscles (as opposed to the volume of the face), explore the different types of inhibitors available.

Types of Inhibitors

Types of Inhibitors

The three most common types of inhibitors are Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin. These injectable neurotoxins are brand names for Botulinum toxin A: Botox is marketed by Allergan, Dysport is marketed byGalderma, and Xeomin is marketed by Merz. All of these inhibitors temporarily alter the nerve impulses of targeted muscles to reduce contraction-induced wrinkles. They can also prevent hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and migraines.

Although they contain the same substance and can be used interchangeably, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin are different products with unique formulations. They may differ in their dosage amount, the spreading of the product, and their results. All three are approved by the FDA and have produced safe, effective results for many years. You may have a slightly different re-action to one product versus another, and skin care specialists often prefer certain inhibitors for certain tasks. Consult with a skin care specialist for more information.

How Inhibitors Work

Inhibitors are injected using a very fine needle, into the targeted muscle. The neurotoxin blocks nerve impulses so that the muscles relax, softening your expressions and diminishing your wrinkles. The application process can be completed in 30-60 minutes, and you can resume most normal activities immediately after (you may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise). Your final results should appear within twelve to fourteen days, and they will last three to four months.

By softening the contraction of the skin, inhibitors reduce the intensity and frequency of wrinkles in both the short-term and long-term. Typically, more than one treatment is required for best results. The first treatment will soften the wrinkles, and the second or third treatments will smooth away the lines so that they blend in with the surrounding skin. If properly applied by experienced professionals, inhibitors can take the edge off of aging without sacrificing the naturalness of your expressions.

Inhibitors can be used on all skin types and colors, though they may not be recommended if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. When injected properly, inhibitors remain within the targeted area and don’t travel to surrounding areas, as some may fear.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Everyone sweats on sweltering summer days and during intense workouts. However, some people also sweat excessively at unpredictable times, for example, on a cool spring evening or while working in an air-conditioned office. These people may perspire profusely due to a condition known as hyperhidrosis, which causes excessive sweating. The issue can be embarrassing and uncomfortable, but luckily, an unexpected treatment is available: Botox. It may sound strange, but using Botox for hyperhidrosis is FDA approved and can effectively mitigate excessive sweating.

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Botox for Hyperhidrosis

Because everyone sweats, sometimes sufferers of hyperhidrosis are unaware of it. If you seem to constantly be sweating in one or two areas of the body, such as the palms, feet, underarms, groin, or face, you may have hyperhidrosis. Instead of just sweating when hot or active, which is typical, you may sweat during everyday situations or when you’re feeling stressed. There may be sweat marks on your shirts, and you might find yourself shopping for clothes with sweat stains in mind. If these symptoms ring a bell, you could be suffering from hyperhidrosis.

THE TREATMENT

The FDA approved Botox for treating axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating of the underarms) over ten years ago in 2004, and it can also successfully treat excessive sweating of the hands, and feet. Botox has been shown to decrease underarm sweating by 82-87% and palm sweating by 80-90%. Plantar (foot) sweating provides less consistent results and will vary from patient to patient.

During the treatment, Botox will be injected into the problem areas, just below the skin’s surface, using a very fine needle. It will temporally block the secretion of the chemical that activates the sweat glands, preventing perspiration. After the treatment, your skincare technician may request that you follow up sometime in the next one to two weeks, so that they can perform any necessary “touch-ups,” treating areas that were missed the first time around.

For a comfortable and effective treatment, be sure to seek out an experienced practitioner. Although you shouldn’t engage in intense exercise or visit a sauna for a day or so following your Botox treatment, you can resume other everyday activities.

THE RESULTS

Following a Botox treatment, you should notice results within 2-4 days, but it may take up to 2-3 weeks for the full effects to appear. The results can last up to a year, and usually after the medication wears off, the symptoms of hyperhidrosis are typically less severe. Repeat injections may be needed for long-term relief.

Botox is safe, effective, and can provide long-lasting results for people who suffer from excessive sweating. Botox 101

Although Botox is used by millions of men and women each year, most people aren’t fully aware of its composition and range of uses. Since it was first introduced, skincare technicians and doctors have discovered that Botox offers a host of other benefits in addition to its most familiar claim to fame: softening and decreasing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. So today, we’re focusing on Botox 101: the composition of Botox, where you should receive a treatment, how Botox can be used, the benefits it offers, and the safety risks it can pose. Scroll down for a quick lesson in botulinum toxin (aka Botox).

What is Botox?

Botox is a drug created from various forms of botulinum toxin. Used in small doses, it can treat a number of physical concerns and health problems by weakening or paralyzing certain muscles and nerves.

Where should I receive a Botox treatment?

If you’re interested in Botox, it’s important to look for a quality service. Instead of receiving a Botox treatment spur-of-the-moment at the mall or a “Botox party,” look for a skilled and experienced skincare technician and be sure to have a consultation beforehand. At a medical setting, you can feel confident that the technician is using fresh Botox that has been stored correctly, as well as good hygiene and proper application techniques.

How can Botox be used and what benefits does it offer?

As most people know, Botox can be used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. In some ways, it’s like an eraser, smudging the harsh lines that appear on our faces over time. However, it’s also beneficial for people suffering from migraines or hyperhidrosis (i.e., excessive sweat). Finally, it may help people struggling with bladder control, joint pain, and various eye issues (strabismus, diplopa, and blepharospasm). To learn more about the benefits of Botox, please check out this previous blog post.

What are the safety risks of Botox?

Botox is a very popular procedure. It has been used for over 30 years and when properly administered, there are very few safety concerns. However, before you receive Botox, your skincare technician should determine whether or not you’re a good candidate for the treatment. For example, if you have a muscle/nerve disorder, a Botox allergy, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or will soon be having surgery (amongst other situations), you may not be eligible for Botox.

As with all medical procedures, there are some side effects and potential complications to Botox as well. Side effects include redness, swelling, pain at the injection site, bruising, and bleeding. Your skin’s natural reaction, the technician’s skill, the size of the needle, and luck can all influence whether or not you will have these side effects. Complications aren’t common, but if you experience any strange symptoms, call your doctor immediately. Complications can include difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, blurred vision, drooping eyelids, and a change of voice.

Benefits of Botox

As the years go by and time tugs and pulls at our skin, we’re forced to confront lines and wrinkles. Frown lines, bunny lines, and crow’s feet gradually appear on our faces, but you can choose to tackle these wrinkles with a neurotoxin like botulinum toxin, commonly known as Botox. By blocking the nerves that contract muscles, Botox is able to soften and reduce the appearance of wrinkles . . . but that’s not all it can do! If you’re curious about the many benefits of Botox, you’re in the right place. Today we’re exploring all of the reasons why you might choose to have Botox treatments.

Benefits of Botox

Benefits of Botox

Botox can soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

Let’s start with the most well-known and popular benefit of Botox: it softens the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Wrinkles form on our faces when the skin is repeatedly folded, which happens every day as we make normal facial expressions. Botox limits these movements, so the wrinkles relax and soften.

Botox can reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.

For those who suffer from chronic migraine headaches (severe headaches that occur 15 or more days a month), Botox can ease very painful symptoms including nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to lights, sounds, and smells. It was approved for this purpose in 2010, and if your doctor recommends it for you, you will typically receive multiple doses of Botox in specific spots around the head, neck, and upper back every 1-3 months. Medical experts believe that Botox treats migraines by both relaxing the muscles and blocking the sensory nerves that project messages of pain to the brain.

Botox can reduce the effects of hyperhidrosis (i.e., excessive sweat).

Do you have a problem with perspiration? Don’t sweat it! Botox can also help people who suffer from hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweat. The injections block the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. However, the effects are temporary (so ongoing treatments are needed), it is only mildly effective for those with severe symptoms, and its long-term effects are currently unknown.

Botox may help with bladder control, joint pain relief, and strabismus.

Although the research on the effects of Botox on these ailments is ongoing and not yet certain, studies do suggest that Botox can (1) help control an overactive bladder, (2) alleviate joint pain in the shoulders, knees, and hips, and (3) improve or eliminate eye issues including strabismus (crossed eyes), diplopa (blurred vision), and blepharospasm (eyelid spasms). If you suffer from any of these frustrating problems, you might wish to discuss the benefits of Botox with your doctor.

Of course, you should not undergo Botox treatments carelessly or spur-of-the-moment. Discuss Botox with your doctor, study the research beforehand, and be sure that you fully understand the possible risks and side effects.
