Facial Fat Transfer Procedure

As time goes by, we lose volume in our faces due to a variety of factors, including bone loss, sun exposure, hormonal changes, and even yo-yo dieting. This reduction in facial fat and collagen can cause wrinkles and lower our skin’s youthful elasticity. Although you might enjoy the loss of your baby fat, losing volume in your face in adulthood can make you appear older, more tired, and less attractive. Luckily, there is a simple way to turn back the clock: a facial fat transfer procedure.

Facial Fat Transfer Procedure

Facial Fat Transfer Procedure

What is a facial fat transfer procedure?

A facial fat transfer can add volume back to areas where it has been lost. During the procedure, some of your own fat will be extracted using a process similar to liposuction. Then, this fat will be processed and combined with stem cells and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to make the procedure last longer. After that, the fat will be injected into the area you are concerned about to add volume. Typically, this will be around the eyes, cheeks, or jawline.

What is the fat removal procedure like?

A fatty area of the body, like the thighs, hips, lower back, or abdomen, will provide the fat needed for the procedure. The fat is harvested through a very small hole, into which a thin cannula is inserted, and only about 120 to 150 cubic centimeters (cc) of fat are needed for the procedure. This is a minimally invasive technique that can be completed in hidden areas of the body, so you will not typically need to worry about scarring. In addition, local anesthesia can lessen your discomfort.

What is the recovery process like?

After a facial fat transfer, you will experience bruising and swelling for a couple of weeks as your body adjusts to the change. You may wish to take time off work and avoid social occasions for a few days until your face returns to its normal appearance.

How long will the results last?

The results of a facial fat transfer procedure can last up to six years. If the fat were simply transferred and not processed, this would not be possible. However, by mixing your fat with stem cells and platelet-rich plasma (PRP), we can increase the longevity of your results by 40%. Without processing, the results would last around three years. With processing, the results can last five or six years.

_____

To plump up and rejuvenate your face, consider investing in a facial fat transfer. This amazing technology will help you appear more youthful, energized, and awake. Plus, it can reduce the appearance of wrinkles! Although the results are not permanent, you will enjoy a younger-looking face for several years. The process is quick and simple, and you won’t be left with conspicuous scars. If you are interested in scheduling a facial fat transfer procedure or simply learning more about this revolutionary process, please contact DermaHealth Laser & Skin Care Clinic if you live in southwest Missouri. What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

Although a combination of regular exercise and a healthy diet is the best way to burn off fat and reach your ideal weight, sometimes stubborn bits of fat remain despite your healthy food and fitness regimen. In these situations, tumescent liposuction might be the best solution. So what is tumescent liposuction? It is a procedure in which a few pounds of fat are removed through the use of a small and powerful laser (which is inserted into the body) and a cannula connected to a vacuum (which removes the liquefied fat cells). Although tumescent liposuction isn’t for everyone, it could be just what you need to achieve your dream body.

What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

What Is Tumescent Liposuction?

THE PROCEDURE

So what is tumescent liposuction? As we mentioned above, the tumescent liposuction procedure involves a tiny laser, a cannula, and a vacuum. The laser is carefully inserted into the body through a minuscule incision, where a burst of energy will pinpoint and liquefy the fat that has been troubling you. Those liquefied fat cells are then removed through the use of a cannula connected to a vacuum device. The cannula is inserted into the same tiny incision as the laser, through the layers of fat beneath the skin, so that it can remove the fat cells directly and permanently.

The duration of the procedure will vary based on the size of the treatment area, your doctor’s choices, and a variety of other factors, but one to three hours is typical. In addition, although the experience is quite comfortable due to the use of local anesthesia, you may experience soreness, aches, and tenderness following tumescent liposuction. Feel free to take a pain reliever to reduce your discomfort.

THE RECOVERY PROCESS

Thankfully, the recovery period following tumescent liposuction is short. In just 1-2 days, you should be able to return to work and your normal activities. However, take it easy. Avoid strenuous exercise, don’t move around too much (but don’t lie in bed all day either), wear compression garments, and above all, listen to your specialist’s advice.

THINGS TO KNOW

  • You must maintain your diet and exercise routine if you want your body to retain its post-procedure shape.
  • Following the procedure, you will have a tiny scar (1-2 mm) where the laser and cannula were inserted. Your specialist will strategically choose the spot for incision to reduce its prominence, and you can easily cover the scar with clothing or makeup.
  • Tumescent liposuction only removes a few targeted pounds of fat, so it is not recommended for those hoping to lose 20 pounds or more.
  • To learn if you’re a good candidate for tumescent liposuction, speak with a specialist. If you are under age 18 or trying to lose a significant amount of weight, however, it is unlikely that liposuction will be recommended. Ideal candidates for tumescent liposuction have a BMI under 25 and are near their target weight.

Tumescent Liposuction Q&A

Have you been struggling to eliminate fat from certain areas of your body? No matter which exercises you try and no matter what changes you make to your diet, does that stubborn bit of fat remain? You might be interested in tumescent liposuction, a safe and effective procedure in which trained technicians and medical doctors remove fat from specific areas of the body. To learn more about this speedy, outpatient procedure, check out our tumescent liposuction Q&A below for some quick answers.

Tumescent Liposuction Q&A

Tumescent Liposuction Q&A

Is tumescent liposuction a weight loss solution?

No, unfortunately. Only a few pounds of fat are removed during tumescent liposuction, so the procedure is recommended for individuals who are close to their ideal weight, not those who are hoping to lose 20+ pounds. Liposuction eliminates stubborn bits of fat, not large amounts of weight, and the results are only permanent if you continue to maintain a healthy diet and exercise.

How does tumescent liposuction work?

Basically, a very small and powerful laser is inserted into the body through a small incision. The laser pinpoints and liquifies fat cells, which are then removed with a cannula connected to a vacuum device. To learn more about the process, please check out this previous blog post.

Will I have scars afterward?

Yes, but because the incisions will be small and strategically placed, the scars will not be noticeable. If they bother you, you can easily cover them with clothing or makeup.

How long will the procedure take?

The duration will vary based on the size of the treatment area, the doctor’s choices, and a variety of other factors. However, you can typically expect your appointment to last about one to three hours. Ask for more specific information during your consultation.

Will it hurt?

You will be lightly sedated beforehand and given local anesthesia to ensure that the experience is comfortable and not painful. However, you may experience some side effects afterward including soreness and aching. You can take a pain reliever to reduce the discomfort.

What is the recovery process like?

You won’t be able to drive directly after having tumescent liposuction, so be sure to ask someone you trust to pick you up and drive you home. Expect to wear compression garments and absorbent pads, and don’t schedule any vigorous activity for the next week or so. Keep your body active with slow walks and get lots of rest. Above all, listen to your doctor’s directions and advice. To learn more about the recovery process, check out this previous blog post.

Am I a good candidate for tumescent liposuction?

Unfortunately, we can’t answer this question for you. To learn if you’re a good candidate for the procedure, schedule a consultation so that you can have a personalized conversation. However, as we mentioned above, it is important to note that tumescent liposuction is not a treatment for obesity. It is also not recommended for people under the age of 18, whose bodies are still developing.

How Liposuction Works

If you’re struggling to change certain parts of your body through diet and exercise, you may be interested in liposuction. Using liposuction, you can safely and directly remove fat from specific areas around the body. Tumescent laser-assisted liposuction is the preferred method these days, because it is safer, less painful, and more effective than traditional liposuction, and the procedure and recovery time are quicker. Plus, you’ll be able to schedule it as an outpatient procedure! Before you arrange for a consultation, let’s learn how liposuction works . . .

How Liposuction Works

How Liposuction Works

THE PROCEDURE

During tumescent liposuction, a very precise and powerful laser is inserted into the body through a small incision using a tiny cannula (the tube that houses the laser). With a burst of energy, the laser targets and liquifies deposits of fat cells. The area is heated consistently and thoroughly for reliable results. The laser also stimulates the skin, which can firm the skin and improve its overall appearance. Once the fat has been liquified, a different cannula is inserted through the same small opening and into the layers of fat beneath the skin. The cannula is connected to a suction device, which vacuums the liquified fat out of the body.

Note: The tumescent liposuction procedure has been declared safe and effective by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

THE PATIENT EXPERIENCE

You can have liposuction completed on your neck, face, arms, back, belly, thighs, or buttocks. To ensure that you are comfortable, you will be lightly sedated about 30-60 minutes beforehand and given local anesthesia. The liposuction process will be completed by medical doctors. It typically takes one to three hours, and you will be awake throughout. In fact, you may even need to stand during the procedure, so that the doctor can effectively reach and target the treatment area.

Afterward, you will need to wear compression garments to reduce swelling and give your skin support. You can expect to be back on your feet the following day, though you may have side effects including swelling, bruising, soreness, and redness. You can take a pain reliever to alleviate any lingering discomfort.

To learn more about the short and simply recovery process following tumescent liposuction, please check out this previous blog post.

THE RESULTS

Tumescent liposuction is not a weight loss solution (typically, only two to six pounds are removed). Ideal candidates have a BMI under 25, are close to their target weight, and are hoping to eliminate stubborn fat that is hard to target through diet and exercise alone. The tiny incisions made during the procedure, which are typically 1-2mm, will heal quickly. You should see results within a week, and the area will continue to improve during the next six to nine months. Assuming you maintain a sensible diet and exercise, the results will be permanent.
